Title: Senior Manager, Patents
Assist in management the company’s patent portfolio, including drafting, filing, and prosecuting a global portfolio of patent applications, using both in-house and outside counsel resources
Identify patentable inventions and new IP opportunities through frequent interactions with R&D project teams, create appropriate patent protection strategies and execute on those strategies
Work as a liaison between business team and scientists to proactively build our Intellectual Property portfolio and ensure IP and business strategy alignment.
Work closely with our IP Team in patent docketing and other tasks related to managing deadlines.
Provide IP legal support for business development activities, such as due diligence, transactional work, patent license negotiations, and business and research collaborations
Review data disclosure/publication requests, advise and educate on IP-related matters
Monitor and analyze competitive IP, conduct and analyze patentability, infringement, freedom to operate, and invalidity searches
Patent agent with USPTO registration
Advanced degree in biology, chemistry, life sciences or related discipline required; Ph.D. preferred
At least 3 years of experience in pharmaceutical/biotech companies or law firms serving such clients, including hands-on experience with patent drafting and prosecution/due diligence/patentability/freedom-to-operate analyses
Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to interact with both scientific and business leaders and with multinational personnel from a variety of cultures, backgrounds and locations
Ability to work independently and in teams; ability to work efficiently, to prioritize workflow, to meet demanding deadlines, and to manage multi-dimensional projects in a fast-paced environment are essential
Must have a flexible and proactive approach to problems and demands, with the ability to thrive on challenge and react quickly and positively to a fast-moving and challenging environment.
Experience in invention harvesting, patent preparation and prosecution, portfolio development, and patent searching
Detail-oriented and resourceful with excellent follow-through skills
